CALISTOGA'S REPUTATION IS BUILT ON ITS HISTORIC HOT SPRINGS WATERS.

YET, THERE HAS BEEN NO PUBLIC PLACE
FOR CALISTOGA'S CHILDREN TO LEARN TO SWIM.

A GROUP OF CITIZENS DECIDED TO CHANGE THAT.

CALISTOGANS HAD A DREAM OF BUILDING A COMMUNITY POOL. HEADED BY SENIOR ACTIVIST SYLVIA SCOTT, A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS CREATED THE NON-PROFIT, CALISTOGA COMMUNITY POOL COMMITTEE (DBA: CCP). AS THE DREAM GREW INTO COMMITMENT AND COMMITMENT TURNED INTO PASSION, THE POWER OF THE GRASSROOTS, COMMUNITY SPIRIT WAS SEEN. HOWEVER FOR THE PROJECT TO MOVE AHEAD, IT HAD TO HAVE THE SUPPORT, BOTH FINANCIAL AND POLITICAL, OF THE CITY COUNCIL.

THAT WAS THEN. THIS IS NOW. WITH THE RELENTLESS SUPPORT OF RECENT CALISTOGA MAYORS, CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE, BOTH BUSINESS AND PRIVATE, WE ARE ON THE BRINK OF BRINGING THIS DREAM TO FRUITION.

THE PROJECT ACED THE ULTIMATE HURDLE WHEN THE CITY DECLARED THE POOL A PRIORITY, AND RETAINED THE SERVICES OF ARCHITECT PAULETT TAGGERT & ASSC. OF SAN FRANCISCO. THROUGH ITS GRASSROOTS EFFORTS, THE CCP RAISED THE MONEY IT COMMITTED TO. THE CITY ALSO RAISED ITS PORTION THROUGH VARIOUS GRANTS AND DEVELOPER FEES. CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS WERE
COMPLETED AND THE PROJECT WENT OUT TO BID. THE CITY WAS READY TO HIRE A CONTRACTOR WHEN A GROUP OF CITIZENS VOICED CONCERNS ABOUT THE NOISE THE POOL MIGHT GENERATE. WITH THE HELP OF THE ARCHITECT AND A NOISE ABATEMENT FIRM, THE CITY AND THE POOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE WORKED HARD TO ADDRESS THE POTENTIAL ISSUES. ON MARCH 6, 2007 THE FINDINGS PLUS A RECONFIGURED PROJECT SITE WERE PRESENTED AND THE COUNCIL VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO MOVE AHEAD WITH FINAL PLANS FOR THE POOL. THE CURRENT PLAN IS TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION AT THE
END OF AUGUST, 2007.

THIS FORWARD PROGRESSION DEMONSTRATES THE TREMENDOUS COMMUNITY AND POLITICAL SUPPORT FOR THIS PROJECT AS WELL AS A FIRM COMMITMENT BY ALL PARTIES TO THE PROJECT’S COMPLETION.

THE CCP NONPROFIT IS COMMITTED TO MAKING OUR CITY A POSITIVE PLACE FOR ALL CITIZENS TO LIVE REGARDLESS OF AGE, CULTURAL OR ECONOMIC DIFFERENCES. HAVING A POOL WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS WILL PROVIDE A REASONABLY PRICED, MAJOR RECREATION FACILITY FOR ITS USERS THAT THE
CITY CURRENTLY LACKS BUT URGENTLY NEEDS.
